Prevention Is Key

Maybe you are in your 30s and in the best shape of your life, do you really need preventive care? Yes, preventive care is important for everyone.

Even when you think you are in the best shape you may be at risk for a serious condition. It is also important to remember that not all illnesses or health conditions show symptoms in early stages. By using preventive services at the right time, you can help prevent certain illnesses or health conditions from happening or detect health problems at early stages which could make them easier to treat.

Preventative Care Services: What To Expect

Preventive care services are typically provided during a wellness exam when you don’t have any symptoms. You and your doctor will determine what screenings are right for you based on:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Personal health history
  • Current health

What does it cost? Many plans cover 100% of the cost for preventive care when it is In-Network. Always make sure to check with your plan materials, health insurance company, or Benefits department for a list of your plan’s network. Keep in mind, even if your appointment is a wellness or preventive care appointment, you might receive other services that are not preventive. These services may or may not be covered under your plan which means that you may be responsible for paying some or all the cost for the services that are not covered under preventive care.

Depending on criteria such as age, gender, health history, and current health preventive care could include:

  • Annual wellness exams
  • Cancer screenings
  • Diabetes screening/counseling
  • Autism screening
  • Breast-feeding support/counseling and supplies
  • Sexually transmitted infections screening/counseling
  • Hepatitis B and C screenings
  • High blood pressure screening
  • And many more services
